Skypecasting - a rage in it's BETA

I live in the lonely suburbs of Los Angeles...alone! I am neither a party animal nor a travel freak; which inadvertently adds to my woes. With long evenings and forever lasting Sunday afternoons to plough through, I dig into ways of spending quality time using my wonder machine - the laptop! Before landing at Skype, I used to browse sites like Youtube, Google Videos. The problem I found with the later two was that, I was not in any way involved in the entertainment expect playing the role of a sincere audience. But the former actually got me involved in it's idea of entertainment.

Now what is this unique idea of digital entertainment?! It's called Skypecasting and it is still in it's BETA. Basically, Skypecasting is a portmanteau of 'Skype' and 'podcasting'. It refers to the use of the Skype voice over IP software to record teleconferences in which multiple people can be present in a broadcast despite being geographically distributed and publish them as podcasts, which allows audio or video content to be syndicated over the Internet.

Or in layman's terms, it allows me to be a Radio Jockey and experiment with my ideas. I can host a show and several people can join me in. Wow! Sounds fantastic...doesn't it?

I prefer Skypecasting to Podcasting because:

  • Podcasting is done using third-party softwares, whose interfaces are quite confusing, whereas Skypecasting is done using a well-crafted unique Skype interface
  • People can be a part of the chat during a Skypecast whereas this is not possible for those involved in a Podcast
  • and many more...
Easy teleconferencing can be done with anyone in the world...and ideas can be shared and distributed. What a unique technology which was only a dream a decade ago! If you want to be a part of the daily Skypecasts, then the first step is to download Skype here.
